December 3, 2012

i don't know whether to laugh, cry, or get drunk.

over the weekend (yes, i used the entire weekend) we put up our christmas tree.  last year my momma was next door so we celebrated christmas there.  since, we weren't going to be doing to much at my house we thought a small tree and very minimal decorating would be good enough.  this year, we're moving christmas back to my house and that means a big tree!  (again, i seriously dislike decorating for christmas.)

this morning 6...yes SIX ornaments were on the floor, a bow had been pulled loose, another ornament was hanging by a thread,  and the tree skirt had been bunched up and thrown into such a ball that it looked like the kitties (read:  SPIKE) threw a crazy christmas cat rave overnight.  we did what any normal cat owner does.. grumbled to ourselves, yelled at the cats (obviously hours after they did the misdeed and had no clue why we were yelling), warned them there will be serious consequences if they touch the tree again!! and continued to gripe the whole time we rehung the ornaments.  we then put a little gate/fence in front of the tree in hopes to protect (at least) the front ornaments and left for school/work.

as we drove,  it hit me... let's NOT put each ornament back in it's place.  if these dang cats want to be the ones in charge of decorating the tree then they can.  i mean, in all reality, they WILL get their way.  why?  because cats are jerks!  therefore, the plan has been changed.  instead of rehanging each fallen ornament we're going to place them around the house as regular decorations. each day i plan to take pictures of the ornaments they (again, read: SPIKE) decides no longer belong on the tree and post 'em here or instagram (probably both!).

maybe doing this it will bring a little joy and laughter into an otherwise VERY frustrating situation for me and my OCD ways..  either that - or i will have to spend the holiday season spiking any beverage i'm handed in order to deal with these freakin' cats and their bad behavior.

this morning i was also feeling a bit of deja vu.  i wanted to travel back in time on this blog and see where we were last year at this time...December 3, 2011some things never change.
