Oak Hill Cemetery

I'm excited to report we've now hit two..count them two cemeteries. lol  That is a huge step toward my goal of visiting 10 before the end of the year.  I'm sort of posting out of order.  On Friday the 13th, the Demon and I visited a cemetery.  That particular one was a lot older than this one, and I do plan on blogging about that one at a later date.    But, today, I want to show you Oak Hill.

I used my camera, phone and iPod to take pictures.

This cemetery holds a special place in my family.  My great grandpa, great grandma, and grandpa are buried here.  I thought it was going to be like searching for a needle in a haystack trying to locate their sites.  It took the Demon about 10 minutes and he said "I found them!".  I was so happy.  It was the first time I had ever visited...

There were geese galore!  It's also the perfect place to find loads of acorns.

The first stop was to take pictures around the lake.  It was so peaceful and quiet.

There was one huge difference between the two cemeteries that we have visited.  The size!  This place is huge in comparison.  There are places where it seems there are plots on top of each other while other spots are empty.

I don't think we could've picked a prettier day to visit.

This is a relatively "newer" cemetery.  It was chartered in 1910, so I didn't find too many really old tombstones.  However, I had never seen anything like the image above.  An above ground entombment.  Just beautiful.  Admittedly, I've spent very little time exploring cemeteries up until now.  I have always had a real fear of getting lost in the huge ones we have around here!

Oak Hill Cemetery is very big, although not the biggest in town.  I am sure I missed some amazing headstones.  I was dodging geese left and right trying to drive around to different spots. They aren't afraid of the Jeep...that's for sure!

I'm hoping the weather cools down next week so we can  visit another older one

Enjoy your Thursday!
